Utica College softball players Alison Montante (Williamsville South/Williamsville) and Kelly Field (Watkins Glen/Burdett), were selected to the Empire 8 All-Conference second team for the 2002 season.
This is the second consecutive season Montante has been named to the Empire 8 all-star team. The sophomore slugger led the Pioneers with 28 hits this season including a conference leading three triples over a 25 game span. She also tallied a.326 batting average and a .430 slugging percentage while accumulating 10 RBIs and scoring 16 runs. Also a steady contributor on defense, Montante finished the season with an impressive .974 fielding percentage.
Kelly Field was named to the all-conference team as freshmen. The rookie outfielder led UC with a .400 batting average and a.529 slugging percentage while tallying 28 hits -- including six for extra bases. Field accumulated 11 RBIs and scored 12 runs in 23 games played while ranking fourth in the Empire 8 in batting average and hits per game.
