Utica College sophomore Carla Behe (Little Falls/Little Falls) was recently named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-American Second Team, becoming the first Lady Pioneer field hockey player to receive All-American honors.
Behe, a midfielder, was also named to the NFHCA Division III North Atlantic All-Region First Team, the www.fieldhockey.com Division III All-American Second Team, and to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team.
Behe concluded her sophomore campaign with a team-high 18 assists and four goals, including two game-winners, for a total of 26 points on the season (third on the team).
Other postseason award winners for the Utica College field hockey program include freshman Danielle Fiore (Lakeland/Mohopac), who was honored as the Empire 8 conference Rookie of the Year and selected to the NFHCA All-Region Second Team, the www.fieldhockey.com Division III All-American All-Rookie Team and the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team. Junior Shannon Rohacek (Little Falls/Little Falls) was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team and NFHCA All-Region Second Team, and senior goaltender Jenny Lounsbury (Saratoga Springs/Gansevoort) was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team and NFHCA All-Region First Team.
Fiore led the Lady Pioneers offensively with 41 points on a team-high 18 goals and five assists, while Rohacek followed closely behind with 36 points on 14 goals and eight assists. Lounsbury produced a 15-3 record in goal for UC with 102 saves (.850 save percentage) and six shutouts.
The Empire 8 conference also recognized Jennifer King (Chesapeake/Pasadena, MD) - First Team, junior Alyssa Hohman (Port Byron/Port Byron) - Honorable Mention, sophomore Amanda Iannello (VVS/Verona) - Honorable Mention, and sophomore Desirae Marsh (Whitney Point/Berkshire) - Honorable Mention.
The UC field hockey team finished the season with a program-best 15-3 record and competed in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Championships for the first time ever, falling in semi-final action to Alvernia College by a 2-1 overtime score.
