McGuin Named Dita/NFHCA North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year

Utica College field hockey head coach Megan McGuin was recently named the 2005 Dita/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

McGuin coached the 2005 Pioneers to a 12-5 record and the college's first ever bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. The Pioneers bowed out of the tournament in a first round 5-2 loss to host Babson College.

McGuin, who was named the 2005 Empire 8 Conference Coach of the Year, led a team that produced six all conference athletes, including senior captain Shannon Rohacek (Little Falls/Little Falls), who was recently named a Dartfish/NFHCA Third Team All-American.

Rohacek joins fellow teammate Carla Behe (Little Falls/Little Falls) as the only two athletes in Utica field hockey history to be named All-Americans.

McGuin, originally from Newark, DE, led the Pioneers to the NCAA Championship in just her second season as head coach after two seasons as the assistant under program founder Pat Mihalko.

She has led Utica to the post-season in each of her two seasons, including an appearance in the 2004 ECAC Field Hockey Championships.
