The Utica College field hockey team beat Empire 8 rival Hartwick College 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Sophomore
Katie Kutas (New York Mills/New York Mills) scored the first goal of the game for the Pioneers 15 minutes into the first half off of an assist from teammate
Carla Behe (Little Falls/Little Falls). The second goal of the game came from Hartwick sophomore Lindsay Kurtz (Sherburne-Earlville/Sherburne) off a penalty stroke to tie the score 1-1.

Elizabeth Knudsen (RFA/Rome), assisted by senior
Amanda Iannello (VVS/Verona).
Amanda Johnson (Woodstock Union/Reading, VT) tied the game at 2-2 on an assist by Danielle Greene (Woodstock Union/Woodstock, VT) in the 50th minute.
Behe also assisted on the game-winning goal, which was scored by Kutas with five minutes left to go in the second half. Kutas lead the conference in scoring with 37 ponts (17 goals, three asissts). Kutas now ranks second all-time on the college's single-season scoring list. She needs five points to break the college's all-time single-season scoring record currently held by Danielle Fiore. Fiore tallied 41 points (18 goals, five assists) in the 2004 season.

Jackie Higgins (Taunton/Taunton, MA) tallied five saves in her final home game, while sophomore
Maggie Wright (Missisquoi Valley/Franklin, VT) tallied one. Hartwick goalie Ashley King (Barnstable/Barstable, MA) had 10 saves in net for the Hawks.
The Pioneers' record now stands at 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8. They will return to action Sunday, October 29th at Washington Jefferson where they will play at 12:00 PM.
