UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team lost to No. 14 Nazareth College 11-6 Friday afternoon in Empire 8 Conference action at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Both teams recorded 23 shots a piece, while Nazareth boasted a 35-33 ground ball advantage.
The Golden Flyers jumped out to a 7-0 lead, including two goals by Tia Morgia (Watertown, NY).
Senior
Liz Strodel (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) scored the Pioneers only first half goal and the Golden Flyers went into the half with an 8-1 lead.
Caitlin Zimmer (East Rochester, NY) gave Nazareth a 9-1 lead on an unassisted goal just 2:54 into the second half.
The Pioneers outscored Nazareth 5-3 in the second half, including four consecutive unanswered goals to close out the scoring.
Laura Keating (Whitesboro, NY/Horseheads),
Lauren Schreiner (Cortland, NY/Cortland), and
Andrea Olney (Westernville, NY) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Pioneers, while
Jackie Vicencio (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place), and
Anna Balfoort (Schenectady, NY).
Danielle Andrew (Westwood, MA/Westwood), who was recently named Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week for the second time this season, tallied eight saves. Heather Chaapel (Canandaigua, NY) tallied 10 saves in net for the Golden Flyers.
Utica (5-2, 1-0 Empire 8) will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday against R.I.T. in Empire 8 Conference action, while Nazareth (8-0, 4-0 Empire 8) will take on host Hartwick College Saturday at 4 p.m.
