The Utica College men's tennis team scored its first victory of the season Saturday, defeating Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira College 6-1.
In doubles action, sophomores Mike Zelinski (Marcy, NY) and Paul Alexander (Stittvile, NY) defeated Chris Tilberis and Atsushi Hosoya 8-2, while juniors Robert Russell (New Hyde Park, NY) and Adem Kudic (Split, Croatia) defeated Chandler Paradis and Nick Robertson 8-4.
Zelinksi defeated Tilberis in singles action (6-0, 6-2), while Russell defeated Paradis 6-3, 7-3 and Kudic defeated Robertson 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Erikson Neilans (Batavia) defeated Matt Rubin in two sets (6-1, 6-1), while senior Tom Meininger (Bridgewater, NY) defeated Dan Moore 6-4, 6-4.
The Pioneers are now 1-3 overall. They will travel to take on Oswego State Wednesday, April 19, at 4 pm.
