UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team won their fourth consecutive game Friday 7-6 over visiting St. John Fisher College in the Empire 8 Conference opener for both squads.
Fisher (3-4, 0-1 Empire 8) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Katie Glavin (Syracuse, NY) found the back of the net just 1:37 into the first half and Jen Springett (Newark, NY) scored one of her game-high five goals just over ten minutes later.
The momentum shifted in the direction of the Pioneers as senior
Jennifer Munisteri (Merrick, NY/St. Dominic) tallied one of her two goals with just 12 seconds remaining in the first half. St. John Fisher led 2-1 at intermission.
Utica tallied six second half goals including a combined four by senior classmates
Lauren Schreiner (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and
Liz Strodel (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran). Schreiner also tallied a team-high two assists on the evening.
Casey Pelletier (Middletown, CT/Mercy) tallied one goal and
Laura Keating (Whitesboro, NY/Horseheads) posted one assist.
Senior goalie
Danielle Andrew (Westwood, MA/Westwood) made 12 stops for the Pioneers, while freshman Danielle Murphy (Skaneateles, NY) posted three saves in net for the Cardinals.
Utica (4-2, 1-0 Empire 8) will return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday against visiting Wells College.
