FIELD HOCKEY WINS THIRD STRAIGHT

The Utica College women's field hockey team won its third straight game Wednesday after two first period goals led to a 2-1 win at host Oswego.

Sophomore Katie Kutas (New York Mills/New York Mills) got the Pioneers on the board twice in the first half.  Kutas, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week, scored her first goal off a rebound.  The initial shot was taken by defender Amanda Iannello (VVS/Verona).  Kutas's second goal came in the thirty second minute when she rebounded her own shot and found the back of the net.   Kutas currently leads the Empire 8 in scoring with 26 points on the season.

Oswego scored late in the second half as Jenna Retzer crossed the ball to the far post and hit Ashley Demo for the Lakers lone goal of the contest.

Maggie Wright (Missisquoi Valley/Franklin, VT), who was recently named Empire 8 Goalie of the Week and the college's female athlete of the week, tallied three saves in the victory, while Kaitlin Daniels tallied twelve saves for the Lakers.  Wright is now a perfect 4-0 in net on the season.

Former All-American Carla Behe (Little Falls/Little Falls) tallied three shots on net but was unable to get past Daniels.

Utica (6-3) will return to action Sunday against visiting Elmira College at 11 a.m.
