The Utica College field hockey team defeated St. Lawrence 3-2 Sunday morning in the final day of the UC Invitational held at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Junior midfielder Jenna Morton (New York Mills/New Hartford) got the Pioneers on the board in the thirty-first minute as she knocked home a cross from reigning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year Katie Kutas (New York Mills/New York Mills). Kutas would later tally the Pioneers third and final goal to seal the victory.
All-American Carla Behe (Little Falls/Little Falls) scored with twenty five minutes left in the second half. Her goal was set up by senior defensemen Amanda Iannello (VVS/Vernon).
Utica avenged a 3-0 shut out loss at the hands of the Saints in the second game of the 2005 season. The Pioneers went on to become the first program in school history to receive a bid into the NCAA Division III Championships.
Utica (2-0) returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday against visiting Hamilton College.
