ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey faced their third ranked opponent in as many games, hosting #8 Utica College at the Frank Ritter Memorial Arena on Wednesday evening. The Tigers, ranked ninth, defeated the Pioneers 4-1, improving their record to 13-2-0. Utica drops to 10-4-2 on the season.
RIT got on the board just 15 seconds into the first period on a goal by Courtenay Cooper (Oakville, ON). She ripped a slap shot from the right point that looked to be deflected but went right past
Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, CA/). Maegen Geypens had the assist on the play.
Melissa Hall (Chesterland, OH) made it 2-0 at 9:31 of the period on an assist from Lindsay Latour (South Kent, CT). She drove the net and put two shots on net. The rebound came out to Hall who jammed it home for a 2-0 RIT lead.
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) cut RIT's lead in half, scoring a power play goal at 8:59 of the second period on an assist from
Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams).
Maegen Geypens (Oshawa, ON) made it 3-1 just 46 seconds later on assists from Isabelle Richard and Nagymarosi. Richard fed Geypens in the slot and she flicked a wrist shot past Yates for her ninth tally of the season.
Midway through the third RIT had to kill of two straight 5-on-3 power plays by the power plays. Karen Quigley was outstanding, making several spectacular saves to keep the score at 3-1.
Utica pulled their goalie with three minutes to go but RIT's defense held strong, holding the Pioneers off the scoreboard.
Melisaa Hall added an empty-net goal with 12 seconds to play to make the final 4-1.
Quigley finished with 30 saves, earning her eighth win of the season.
