The Utica College field hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half but surrendered three consecutive goals and lost to visiting Washington and Jefferson
3-2 Saturday in Empire 8 Conference action.
The Pioneers fall to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in conference, while the Presidents improve to 11-2 and 3-1 in conference. UC defeated Washington Jefferson
4-2 last season in the teams first-ever meeting.

Kim Martin (Holland Patent/Prospect) tipped in her third goal of the season to open the scoring for the Pioneers at 7:58 after sophomore
Elizabeth Knudsen (Rome Free Academy/Rome) riffled a shot on net. UC took a commanding two goal lead after Kundsen found an open
Tiffany Bichrest (Hebron/Harpswell, ME) who knocked home her fifth goal of the season from seven yards out.
UC dominated the first half statistics out shooting the Presidents 10-3 and the Pioneers also earned an 8-3 penalty corner advantage.
Washington & Jefferson took over in the second half scoring three unanswered goals. Senior stand out
Beth Kelley (Bishop Hartley/Bexley, OH) cut the Pioneers lead to 2-1 seven minutes into the second half on a crossing pass from senior forward
Amanda Howard (North Allegheny/Wexford, PA). Kelley leads the team with 13 goals this season. Howard played a part in all three goals including knocking home the game-winner 1:36 into the first overtime. Howard tipped a
Carley Riggin (North Allegheny/Wexford, PA) shot past UC goalie
Amanda McDonnell (Sagamore Beach, MA/Portsmouth Abby) to lift the Presidents to victory. Howard, who tallied five points on the day, now has eight goals and seven assists on the year.
Both teams took ten shots and the Pioneers received ten penalty corners compared to the Presidents' eight.
McDonnell made seven stops in net for UC, while W & J goalie
Ashley Rund (Thomas Worthington/Columbus, OH) made eight stops on the day.
UC returns to action Friday at 4 p.m. against visiting Oneonta State, while the Presidents travel to SUNY Morrisville Sunday at noon.
