The Utica College women's volleyball team lost to host Oneonta 3-2 (14-30, 21-30, 30-24, 30-28, 9-15) Wednesday evening in non- conference action at Alumni Field House. The Red Dragons were soaring toward a shut out but the Pioneers rallied back winning two games in a row, forcing a fifth and final game. The Red Dragons escaped game five and won the match 3-2.

UC is 8-15 overall and 1-3 in conference play this season, while the Red Dragons advance to 12-10 overall.

The Pioneers were led by freshman Kaitlin Farruggia (Leonardsville/Mt. Markham) who had a solid all around match with a team-high 27 assists,16 digs and a team-best four aces. Farruggia leads the team in assists with 629 on the season.

Sophomore Melissa Austin (Castorland/ Beaver River) had a team-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs while senior Andrea Dekker (Muskegon,MI/ Reeths-Puffer) added 11 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Dekker leads the Pioneers in kills with 181 on the season and also leads the team with 43 service aces.

The Pioneers will return to action this Friday at the Oswego Tournament. Their first game of the tournament is scheduled to begin 4:00 p.m.
