UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's lacrosse team (3-4, 1-0 E8) defeated conference foe Alfred University (1-2, 0-1 E8) in Empire 8 conference action Friday 16-2.
The first half was all UC as they dominated the Saxons 12-0.
Casey Pelletier (Middletown, CT/Mercy) (three),
Kelly Regan (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) (one),
Kathy Waite (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) (three),
Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA/Kents Hill)Â (one),
Marci Coverstone (Union Bridge, MD/Francis Scott Key) (one) and
Jackie Vicencio (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) (three) all scored first half goals for UC.
Vicencio scored three goals with two unassisted goals at 28:20 and 17:50 of the first half. Her third goal came at 9:27 with an assist from
Laura Keating (Whitesboro, NY/Horseheads). Vicencio also cashed in on an assist to Doherty at 1:21.
Waite's three goals came at 21:27 (unassisted), 26:03 (Pelletier), and 27:57 (Keating).
Pelletier's first goal was unassisted and came at 29:20 of the first half. Her second was assisted by Vicencio at 17:50, and her third by Keating at 9:31.
Doherty's goal was scored on an assist by Vicencio at 1:21, Regan's goal was unassisted at 26:24, and Coverstone's goal came at 24:39 left in the first half.
The second half started out slow until 24:12 when Doherty scored on an assist from
Annemarie Reppucci (Lowell, MA/Lowell). Keating scored her first goal of the game at 17:58, and assisted Coverstone in her second goal at 16:02.
Alfred scored its first goal of the game at 10:37 of the second half on a shot from Kate Simonds (Park City, UT/Park City), assisted by Emily Tobin (Penfield/Penfield). Utica responded 20 seconds later with an unassisted goal by
Annie Thiel (Hamden, CT/Hamden). Alfred's second goal of the game came at 2:41 when Bailey Hebert (Heuvelton/Heuvelton) swept a loose ball into the net.
Junior goalie
Kelly George (Geneva, NY/Geneva) of the Pioneers had one save in the second half, while junior
Jessica LeClerc (Augusta, ME/Deerfield Academy) had two saves in the first half. Saxons goalie Shauna Carroll (Babylon/Babylon) had six saves on the day.
The Pioneers return to action at St. John Fisher, Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
