UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 11-1 first half lead and held Wells College scoreless in the second half as they defeated the Express 19-1 in their final contest of the 2007 season.
The Pioneers wrap up the season with a 5-10 overall record, while the Express dropped to 2-15.
Senior defensemen
Annie Thiel (Hamden, CT/Hamden) netted three goals in the final game of her career, while classmate
Kerri Weber (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford), junior
Casey Pelletier (Middletown, CT/Mercy),
Kelly Regan (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa),
Mallory Davis (Vernon-Rockville, CT/Rockville), and
Jackie Vicencio (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) each scored two goals. Pelletier and Theil closed out the game with five points each tallying three and two assists respectively.
Laura Keating (Whitesboro, NY/Horseheads),
Marci Coverstone (Union Bridge, MD/Francis Scott Key),
Kelly Jones (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford),
Jessica LeClerc (Augusta, ME/Deerfield Academy),
Maggie Wright (Franklin, VT/MVU), and
Annemarie Reppucci (Lowell, MA/Lowell) each tallied one goal in the victory. Keating added two assists.
UC goalie
Kelly George (Geneva, NY/Geneva) stopped one shot in 30:00 of work, while Allie Inga and Hilary Lucas combined for 11 saves for Wells.
The Pioneers out shot the Express 46-7 and won the ground ball battle 40-17. Vicencio tallied a team-high seven ground balls. UC forced 40 turnovers on the evening.
Pelletier tallied a team-best 48 points (35 goals, 13 assists) this season and Keating ranked second on the team with 37 points (21 goals, 16 assists). Vicencio and
Kathy Waite (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) tallied 26 and 24 points a piece.
UC will lose just two seniors to graduation (Weber and Thiel). The senior defensive duo combined for 22 points this season on 16 goals and six assists.
