UTICA, NY – Sophomore Andrea Curley (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) of the Utica College softball team was named to the 2007 ECAC Division III Upstate Softball All-Star Team Thursday. Curley earned the honor as a utility player after pitching, catching and playing third base this season.
On the mound, Curley earned eight wins while compiling a 3.58 earned run average in 103.2 innings of work. She recorded 76 strikeouts in 15 complete games. Curley has 159 strikeouts and 23 wins in just two seasons as a starter for the Pioneers.
When Curley wasn't pitching she was in the field. She batted .352 (32-for-91) and ranked third on the team with 21 RBI and two home runs. Curley was also solid in the field where she had a .961 fielding percentage while making just four errors in 30 games started.
Curley was also named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team. She has earned the honor in both of her first two seasons as a Pioneer.
UC wrapped up the season with a 15-17 record. The team earned a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament for the second year but failed to generate any offense as they fell 4-0 to Ithaca and 3-0 to RIT.
UC is looking forward to a successful 2008 campaign after losing just two student-athletes to graduation. The Pioneers will return eight starters and both of their starting pitchers.
