PIONEERS DROP FOURTH STRAIGHT

The Utica College field hockey team lost its fourth straight game 2-0 against visiting Union College Wednesday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

The Pioneers dropped to 2-5 on the year, while the Dutchwomen improve to 3-2 overall. Utica has not lost to Union in five consecutive meetings headed into today. In six contests between the two teams Utica has out scored Union 22-9.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle until junior midfielder Mallory Mason (Algonquin Regional/Southborough, MA) rebounded her own shot off of UC goalie Amanda McDonnell's (Portsmouth Abby/Sagamore Beach, MA) kick save and scored her second goal of the season with just 24 seconds left in the half. Union took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Union went up 2-0 after Anne Hanson (Hartford/White River Junction, VT) took a shot inside the goalie circle that was saved by McDonnell but rebounded and scored by sophomore forward Lizzie Moran (Westminster/Unionville, PA). Moran now has three goals on the year. Hanson with credited with an assist, marking her third of the season.

Union out shot Utica 13-12 and earned a 13-5 penalty corner advantage. McDonnell made nine stops in net for UC, while Liz Stanford (Acton/Acton, MA) stopped eight shots for Union.

Freshman Tiffany Bichrest (Hebron/Harpswell, ME) tallied a career-high five shots on goal for the Pioneers. 

UC return's to action against host Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday. The Empire 8 contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Dutchwomen return to Liberty League action Friday against visiting Vassar College at 4 p.m.
