Senior captain Laurie Calvasina (Vestal/Apalachin) of the Utica College field hockey team earned 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All North Atlantic Region second-team status released Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Calvasina, a 5-foot-3 forward, led the team with 29 points on 14 goals and one assist this season. She tallied a career-high seven points on three goals and one assist in the Pioneers' 5-0 win over Oswego State on September 26th. She tallied her second three goal game of the season in the Pioneers' 4-1 win over Oneonta State on October 19th. In four seasons with the Pioneers she tallied 24 career goals.
She guided the Pioneers to an 8-9 overall record this past season. UC won four out of its last six games and lost seven games by one goal. UC will lose three seniors to graduation, including Calvasina, Meghan Zaklukiewitz (Little Falls/Little Falls), and Jessica Benedict (Walton/Walton). The Pioneers had 12 freshman on their roster this season, including four freshman who started at least 13 games.
