The Utica College women's field hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss on Saturday as they saw their two-game win streak snapped by the
University of Rochester.
The Pioneers battled through the rain but were only able to scrounge up one goal on the afternoon as the Yellowjackets took home the win. The Pioneers now stand at 2-4 on the season as Rochester improves to 4-2.
The Yellowjackets stung first as Anna Dobrzynski scored 17 minutes into the first half. They scored again roughly seven minutes later when Allison Beardsley received a pass from Christi Bottcher and tipped it into the cage to put Rochester up 2-0 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The second half nearly mirrored the first as Rochester came out strong again, scoring just 10 minutes into the period. Freshman Shayna McKie knocked it home after she received a pass from teammate Christi Bottcher, her second assist on the day.
Utica immediately responded as sophomore midfielder
Sarah Keller (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown, PA) scored for the second straight game, just 25 seconds later, cutting the Yellowjacket's lead to 3-1.
Rochester's McKie then increased the lead as she tallied her second goal on the day. Lara Bucarey scored the final goal with less than 15 minutes to play as Erica Gelb recorded the assist.
The Yellowjackets improve to 3-1 versus the Pioneers over the last four seasons as last year's meeting resulted in a 3-2 win for Rochester after a fierce, overtime battle.
Utica College senior
Amanda McDonnell (Portsmouth Abbey/Sagamore Beach, MA) managed to gather nine saves in the losing effort, giving her an impressive 58 on the year.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 as they visit Union College at 5 p.m.
