The Utica College volleyball team dropped to 1-11 overall Wednesday after a 3-0 loss to visiting Hamilton College at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center. The Continentals swept the Pioneers in straight sets 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 in the home-opener for UC.
Last season the Pioneers traveled to Hamilton and defeated the Continentals 3-2, but out of their last four meetings UC has only been able to manage one victory.
Freshman Chloe Pierce (Richview/Toronto, ONT) and junior Brielle Swerdlin (West Morris Mendham/Chester, NJ) led the way for the Pioneers with six kills each, while Melissa Austin (Beaver River/Castorland) added a team-high 13 digs and her sister Miranda Austin (Beaver River/Castorland) assisted on 14 points. Sophomore Heather Jackson (John Stark Regional/Weare, NH) drilled home two kills and added a service ace, while Audrey Cross (Webb Union/White Lake) posted a team-high three blocks in the loss.
Hamilton raised their overall record to 5-5 on the year and they return to action Friday when they host the Hamilton Invitational on campus at the Scott Field House. The Pioneers return to play Friday as well when they travel to the Hartwick Invitational in Oneonta, NY.
