UTICA, NY - The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of games at the Keuka College Invitational Saturday. The Pioneers lost 3-1 against much improved SUNYIT, before falling 3-1 to host Keuka in the night cap.

With the loss the Pioneers drop to 0-6 overall on the year. UC swept SUNYIT in four games last season and lost to Keuka 3-2 in five sets on Sept. 8, 2007.

Freshman Chloe Peirce (Richview/Toronto, ONT) tallied a combined 22 kills in two games to pace the Pioneers in eight games played. She posted 2 service aces, added 22 digs and also blocked one shot. Junior Brielle Swerdlin (West Morris Mendham/Chester, NJ) drove home 16 kills and posted three service aces, while classmate Melissa Austin (Beaver River/Castorland) averaged 1.75 kills per game and a team-high 33 digs in the two-game tournament.

Miranda Austin (Beaver River/Castorland), sister of Melissa, posted 58 of the Pioneers 65 total assists and also added three service aces in two games. Alyssa Sadallah (New York Mills/New Hartford) added nine kills for the Pioneers, while sophomore Heather Jackson (John Stark Regional/Weare, NH) added six digs.

The Pioneers return to the hardwood Wednesday when they travel to Cazenovia College to take on the Wildcats at 7 p.m.
