ITHACA SCORES TWO LATE GOALS TO DEFEAT UTICA

The Utica College men's soccer team (3-9-1, 0-4-1 E8) took a 1-0 lead in the 79th minute of the contest but Ithaca College responded with two goals, just twenty seconds apart, in the 84th minute to snatch a 2-1 victory away from the Pioneers in Empire 8 Conference play Saturday afternoon.

After 79 minutes of scoreless play UC junior Kevin Chapla (Honesdale, PA) broke the 0-0 tie with a goal after a long throw-in by freshman Brett Darrow (Poland, NY).  Chapla gathered the throw right in front of the net and snuck it past Ithaca keeper Evan Kirschner at the 79:30 mark to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

5:06 later Ithaca's Fernando Casanova scored his first of two goals to knot the contest up at 1-1.  20 seconds after his first goal Casanova scored the game-winner for the Bombers at the 84:56 mark of the second half.

Junior goalie Kevin Murphy (West Islip, NY) made five saves in net for Utica while Kirschner stopped seven shots for Ithaca.

The Pioneers return to home next Saturday to take on Elmira College in a conference match up on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at www.ucpioneers.com.
