The Utica College field hockey team lost 2-0 Tuesday to Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI). RPI scored two first half goals and that was enough to hang on to the victory. This was the first win for RPI against the Pioneers in recent years. RPI last beat Utica College back in 2006 as they scored in overtime to win 3-2 in Utica, NY. UC field hockey is now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Empire 8 conference play.
For the Pioneers, forwards Rebecca Corsones and Lindsay Jester both had three shots, two of which were on goal. Midfielder Mallory Mariano added two shots of which one was on goal. Jessica Ahearn had one defensive save for UC. Goalkeeper Monica Storms had four saves in net for the Pioneers.
Utica College field hockey is back in action on the turf Wednesday against University of Rochester in Utica, NY at 7 p.m. University of Rochester has an overall record of 9-5 and they are 3-2 in Liberty League play. In the last four years, Utica College is 1-3 against Rochester with their last win over the Yellowjackets coming in 2005, which they hosted a 5-1 victory.
