PENALTY KICK GIVES ELMIRA 1-0 WIN OVER UTICA IN E8 PLAY

The Utica College men's soccer team (3-10-1, 0-5-1 E8) lost to Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira College (9-4-1, 3-2 E8) 1-0 on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Saturday night.  After a scoreless first half of play, a handball in the box by the Pioneers gave the Soaring Eagles a penalty kick opportunity, and they converted for the eventual game-winning goal.  The Pioneers took charge in the second half and out shot EC 8-5 and also earned an 8-2 corner kick advantage, but UC could not find the back of the net in the loss.

Elmira leading scorer Brian Haschke netted his ninth goal of the season off the penalty kick at 48:04 into the lower left side past the out stretched arms of UC goalie Kevin Murphy to mark the only goal of the contest.

UC out shot Elmira 12-10 overall on the day.

Murphy stopped five shots in net for the Pioneers while Jared Micheller made six saves in net for the Soaring Eagles.

Utica hits the road on Wednesday to take on the Express of Wells College for the Pioneers second to last game of the season.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
