ASHTON

HONORS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN FOR ASHTON

Sophomore midfielder Avion Candice Ashton (Sixth Form Government/Trinidad) of the Utica College field hockey team was named to the 2009 Longstreth / NFHCA Division III North Atlantic All-Region Second Team released Monday. Ashton, an international student from Trinidad, was also an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection for her efforts this past season.

Ashton started all 17 games for the Pioneers in the midfield and totaled three points on three assists. She tallied a season-high two assists in the Pioneers 4-1 win over Brockport on Oct. 7th. She made her mark on opposing teams through her consistent ball handling and ability to control the midfield. Ashton has played in 29 career games and tallied seven points on two goals and three assists over the course of the last two years. Before arriving at Utica she was a captain of the South East Port-of-Spain field hockey team from 2005-2007.

For the second straight season the Pioneers tied with two other schools for third place in the conference regular season standings but missed out on the four team conference tournament due to tie-breaker rules. UC finished with an 8-9 overall record, including a 3-3 conference ledger.
