The Utica College softball team swept both ends of a double header Friday to finish its Spring trip to Kissimmee, Florida with a 4-6 overall record. The Pioneers defeated Framingham State 5-3 before downing Rutgers-Newark 10-4. In the two game span Andrea Curley went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, while freshman Emilia Peluso went 3-for-6, including two doubles, and she totaled a team-high four runs scored.
Senior left fielder Abby Drew led the way for the Pioneers in the first game of the double-header against Framingham State. She went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one double. Freshman shortstop Katie Pitcher added two more RBIs on 1-for-3 hitting and scored once in the victory. Senior Andrea Curley anchored the Pioneer defense pitching all seven innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. She struck out five batters and walked two on her way to her second win of the season.
Drew continued her offensive assault in the second victory of the double-header against Rutgers-Newark. She went 2-for-4 from the dish with three RBIs and one run scored. Emilia Peluso pitched in going 2-for-3 from the plate and scoring three times. Starting pitcher Haley Butler threw four innings, allowing three earned runs and five hits while striking out three batters. Sophomore Kristen Levin picked up the save for her three innings in relief. She allowed only one earned run on five hits and struck out one.
The Pioneers improve to 4-6 with the victories in their final two games in Florida. They return to action on March 25 against visiting Cazenovia College.
