The Utica College men's tennis team lost to Empire 8 Conference foe Stevens Institute of Technology 9-0 Sunday at the UC tennis courts. Shaun Kaleta lost in second singles, while Thien Doan lost in fourth singles.
With the loss the Pioneers overall record drops to 1-5 this season while the Ducks improved to 13-4.
Freshman classmates Rob Cooney and Thien Doan both registered three combined wins in their singles match. Doan lost to Jay Lee (6-2,6-1), while Cooney fell to Carlos Pardo (6-2, 6-1). Cooney then teamed up with senior Khoa Vo in doubles action winning a team-high two games, but ultimately fell to the duo of Jay Lee and Gregory Klose, 8-2.
Sophomore Shaun Kaleta took Jason Ringstad into three sets after winning the second set 6-0. Kaleta won 14 total games but fell in the final set (6-2,0-6,7-6).
The Pioneers hit the court again on April 22, when they travel to Hartwick College. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
