The Utica College men's hockey team lost 6-1 Saturday to nationally ranked No.6 Elmira College after giving up five goals in the third period. Sophomore Tim Coffman (Elverson, PA) scored Utica College's only goal and senior goalie Anthony Luckow (Shelby TWP, MI) recorded 33 saves. The Pioneers entered the third period down 1-0 but failed to hold off the Eagles high powered offense on the way to losing the second game of a back to back weekend set.
The Soaring Eagles got on the board first as Darcy Vaillancourt scored a power play goal off assists from Kevin Willer and Karl Linden 16:33 into the first period. Elmira would add to their lead as Andrew Wilcox scored the first of his two goals during the Utica College power play 5:32 into the third period off assists from Kevin Willer and Brock Sawyer. At the third periods 16:59 mark Darcy Vaillancourt completed the hat trick off assists from Karl Linden and Rusty Masters. The Pioneer's Tim Coffman would put Utica College on the board in the final minute of the game off an assist from senior David Burkholder (Buffalo, NY).
The Pioneers fall to 6-10-3 on the season while Elmira sits atop the ECAC Men's West Conference at 10-0 and 16-3-1 overall. The Soaring Eagles will host Hobart College next Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center with an expected start time of 7 p.m. The Pioneers will play ECAC Men's West rival Lebanon Valley this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Utica Auditorium for senior night sponsored by The Children's Miracle Network.
