BOX SCORE

Utica, N.Y. (10/13/2010) – Senior Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) tied the school-record for points in a single season (32) after netting two goals as the Utica College men's soccer team lost its first home game of the season, 4-2, to local rival Hamilton College Wednesday night. Hamilton's Jesse Arroyave and Frank Campagnano each netted a goal and added an assist for the Continentals (8-1-2).

The Pioneers (8-4-1) return to conference play in game two of a five game home stand Saturday when they host Empire 8 Conference foe Ithaca College at 1 p.m. After a ten day layoff Hamilton returns home to Love Field next Saturday for three straight games to close out the regular season.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first half just 10:03 into the contest when sophomore Anthony Balbo netted his eighth goal of the season into the top right corner after a beautiful low cross from junior Frank Campagnano.

The Pioneers answered right back in the 17th minute when Sgueglia tallied his team-high tenth goal of the season on a low shot from 15 yards out. Junior defender Shane Whitteman was credited with the assist on the game's equalizer.

UC's Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) received his second yellow card of the contest in the 21st minute to give the Continentals a one man advantage for the remainder of the contest.

Senior midfielder Jesse Arroyave netted his first goal of the season to put the Continentals up 2-1 at 29:32, unassisted, from 15 yards out into the top right corner. Just over five minutes later Campagnano extended his season point total to 19 with an impressive 30 yard strike into the top right corner. Campagnano's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Pat Houston.

Utica freshman Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) was taken down in the box on a break-away late in the 35th minute, giving Sgueglia a chance to cut the Continental lead to 3-2. Sgueglia's penalty kick found the back of the net as he tied the school's single season scoring mark.

Hamilton's Hennie Bosman added a late insurance goal to seal the victory for the Continentals.

UC outshot the visitors 13-11 on the day and still applied consistent offensive pressure, especially considering the Pioneers were playing a man down for the majority of the contest. Utica also earned a 6-2 corner kick advantage.

Utica freshman goalie Andrew Boniche (Trumbull, CT/St. Luke's) stopped three shots on the day, while his counterpart Eric Boole made four saves in the victory.
