Utica, N.Y. (10/16/10) – Senior Diego Berckeymeyer (Lima, Peru/Markham) netted the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, the first of his career, as the Utica College men's soccer team defeated visiting Ithaca College 1-0 in a key Empire 8 Conference contest Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) was credited with an assist on the goal to break the College's single-season record for points a season (33).

Utica improved to 9-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Empire 8 while Ithaca drops to 3-7-3 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

UC freshman goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped three shots in his second career shutout. Justin Parlapiano made six saves in his sixth loss of the season for the Bombers.

Utica outshot Ithaca 13-7 on the day while the Bombers took a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pioneers return to action for game three of a five game home stand Sunday when they host non conference foe Wells College at 3 p.m.
