Utica, N.Y. (10/17/2010) – The Utica College men's soccer team improved to 10-4-1 overall after a 3-1 victory over visiting Wells College in non conference play on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Sunday. Freshmen Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) and Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) each netted a goal, while senior Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) extended his single-season scoring record with a goal -- giving him 35 points through 15 games this season.

UC has not won ten games since 2007 when the Pioneers went 10-9 overall. Wells dropped to 4-8-2 overall after the two goal defeat.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Hoxsie tallied his eighth collegiate goal after a beautiful lead pass from classmate Chris Perkins (Charlton, MA/Saint John's of Shrewsbury). Hoxsie beat Wells' goalie Aaron Brody on the left side to give the Pioneers a one goal advantage.

McAllister put the Pioneers up by two at the 44:03 mark when he tallied his first collegiate goal from ten yards out into the upper right corner. Defender Zach Wheeler (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) was credited with an assist on the goal.

Wells answered in the 62nd minute when Patrick O'Callaghan took advantage of a misplayed clear by freshman goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) to cut the Pioneers' lead in half, 2-1. Caruso finished the day with one save as he earned his ninth career win.

Sgueglia went on to add an insurance goal in the 73rd minute, his team-high 12th of the season, on a 2-on-0 breakaway, to give UC the lead for good. Sgueglia's unassisted tally beat Well's reserve goalie CJ Bayly in the upper left corner.

Utica outshot the visitors 10-4 on the day and earned a 6-5 corner kick advantage.

UC returns to action for game four of a five game home stand on Wednesday night when the Pioneers host SUNY Cobleskill for their final non conference contest of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Check www.ucpioneers.com for links to live video and stats.
