Washington, Pa. (10/30/2010) - The Utica College field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision against host Washington & Jefferson in a key Empire 8 Conference match up Saturday morning. With the loss the Pioneers, who clinched a spot in the conference tournament last week, missed out on a chance to host the tournament for the first time in program-history. UC, which has earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will travel to top-seeded Stevens next Saturday to take on Washington & Jefferson once again. The President's earned the No. 2 seed with the victory.
UC closes out its regular season 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8, while Wash. & Jeff. finished with a 14-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the conference. The President's, who rank fifth in the North Atlantic Region, lone Empire 8 loss of the season came at the hands of Stevens.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when senior
Lindsey Jester (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) netted her eighth goal of the season, off assists from
Erin Murphy (West Winfield, NY/Mt. Markham) and
Rebecca Corsones (Hurley, NY/Kingston), at the 10:57 mark of the first period.
The hosts went on to score four unanswered goals over the course of the final 59 minutes of play to earn the higher seed in the conference tournament. Kim Marcius caged two goals for the Presidents, while Erin Barno and Julianne Zackley each added one tally a piece.

Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) tallied nine saves in net for Utica, while her counterpart Roslynn Reynoso made two stops for the Presidents.
