The Utica College men's soccer team lost 4-2 Saturday afternoon to Elmira College in an Empire 8 Conference game at Campus Field in Elmira, NY. The Pioneers are now 8-3-1 on the season, including a 1-2-1 record in conference play, while the Soaring Eagles improve to 8-2-2 overall and remain undefeated in the Empire 8 with a 4-0 record.
Freshmen
Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) tied the game for UC at 1-1, when he netted his seventh goal of the season, off a free kick, a little over seven minutes into the second half.
However, Elmira would answer with three unanswered goals. First at 66:47, Jason Guernsey and Ryan Limero hooked up on a scramble, in front of the net, as Guernsey gave the Soaring Eagles the lead, 2-1. EC would continue its momentum, scoring again at 76:09, as Elmira's Limero added a goal to go along with his assist. Then, about four minutes later at 80:35, EC would net a penalty kick to give the Soaring Eagles a 4-1 lead with less than 10 minutes to play.
The Pioneers didn't give up though. Less than one minute later, UC answered with a goal from
Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) off a cross, in front of the net, from Utica's leading scorer
Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) at 81:24.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, as they host local rival Hamilton College at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The Continentals are currently 7-1-2 overall this season, including a 3-1 record in the Liberty League. In the last five years, Hamilton College is 5-0 against Utica.
