#3 RIT HANDS UTICA FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

Utica, N.Y. (11/13/2010) - The Utica College women's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, 5-2, against nationally-ranked No. 3 Rochester Institute of Technology at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The Pioneers mounted a small comeback, after falling behing 4-0 in the third period, and cut the Tiger (5-0, 3-0 ECAC West) lead to two goals but it proved to be to late. Junior goalie Marrisa Hotaling stopped a career-high 45 shots in net for Utica, while Meghan Myers and Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) each added a goal for Utica.

RIT proved why it's ranked third in the nation early in the contest by netting two goals in the first five minutes from the sticks of Erin Zach and Tenecia Hiller. The Tigers would add their third goal of the game before the period closed to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

After RIT went up 4-0 in the third the Pioneers added their two goals. Tice's goal came on the power-play while seniors Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) and Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY/New Hampton Prep) recorded assists on the Myer's fourth goal of the year.

RIT added an empty netter late to seal the victory. 

The Pioneers will be back in action for game two of the weekend doubleheader against RIT Sunday at the Aud. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m.
