NFHCA ALL REGION TEAMS

Avion Ashton (Trinidad/Sixth Form Government) of the Utica College field hockey team was named to the 2010 Longstreth National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All North Atlantic Region First Team released Thursday. Ashton is making her second straight appearance on the All-Region team after garnering second team status one year ago.

Ashton, a midfielder who was also a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection, earned all region honors after totaling eight points on two goals and four assists this season. More importantly, opposing coaches selected her to the first team for her ability to control the midfield and impact the game on both offense and defense. Over the course of the last three seasons she has totaled 15 points in 47 games played.

Utica, which advanced to the conference tournament for the first time since its inception in 2007, closed out its 2010 campaign with an 8-10 overall mark. The Pioneers earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament but lost, 3-2, against second seeded Washington & Jefferson in the semi-finals at Stevens in Hoboken, N.J.
