The Utica College women's hockey team beat SUNY Oswego, 3-1, Saturday night at the Campus Ice Arena in Oswego, NY. Senior forward
Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) led the way for the Pioneers with the game-winning goal and an assist. Hier is currently the team leader in points (11) and assists (nine) through seven games this season.
The Pioneers, who sit in second place in the conference standings, improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the ECAC Women's West Conference, while the Lakers fell to 1-4-3 on the season and 0-3-3 in conference play.

Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) scored her second goal of the season. Freshmen
Emily Russell (Marblehead, MA/National Sports Academy) recorded her first collegiate assist on the play. Hier gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead, at 17:37, when she hooked up with captain
Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY/New Hampton Prep) on a short-handed goal.
After a Utica penalty at 8:22 in the second period, Oswego's Kathryn Sbrocchi converted on the power-play as she pulled the Laker's to within one goal of the lead.
Senior defender
Rebecca Heim (Westwood, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) added an insurance goal for Utica, her first of the season, at 8:22 in the third period to give the Pioneers a 3-1 cushion that resulted in a conference victory.
Junior goalie
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had another stellar evening in net and improved to 2-1 on the season as she registered 42 saves for Utica. The Pioneers were out shot by the by the hosts 43-30 on the day.
The Pioneers return home to "The Aud" Tuesday as they host upstate rival SUNY Cortland. The conference match-up is set to begin at 7 p.m. The Red Dragons are currently 0-5-2 overall and have a 0-4-2 mark in conference play.
