DOHERTY BECOMES ALL-TIME WINS LEADER AS PIONEERS SKATE PAST POTSDAM

The Utica College women's ice hockey team defeated Potsdam State Saturday 6-4 as senior goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA) recorded her 33rd career win to become the all-time wins leader in program-history. Doherty recorded 26 saves while junior forward Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY) netted two goals and an assist and Meagan Sudik (West Bend, WI) added a pair of goals for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers started the games scoring as Gonzales scored 1:19 into the game off an assist from Becky Heim (Westwood, NJ). Potsdam would answer back 2:31 into the period as Katie Komsa scored, unassisted, to tie the game at one. The Bears would gain the lead as Courtney Laughlin scored a power play goal off assists from Stephanie Simmos and Breanna Roy 17:52 into the period. In the first periods final minute Sudik scored off assists from Andrea Maxon and Samantha Glocking, to tie the score at 2-2.

The second period saw the Pioneers take the lead as Darcy Hier scored 4:54 into the period off assists from Lynny Gonzales and Ann Rancourt. Potsdam would even up the score less than a minute later as Breanna Roy socred off assists from Nicky Bougie and Courtney Laughlin.

The Pioneers would score a go-ahead goal 2:23 into the period as Sudik put in her second of the game and eighth of the year off assist from Heim and Maxon. UC would score the game-winning goal 7:24 into the period as Lynny Gonzales put in her 14th of the year on a 6-on-4 power play, with help from Jodie Galluzzi and Mackenzie Roy. The Pioneers would add an insurance goal 16:06 in as Carmen Johnson scored her second goal of the year, unassisted. The Bears would add a goal a minute later as Stephanie Simons scored off an assist from Annmarie Lewis but it wouldn't be enough to stop the Pioneers from skating to a 6-4 victory.

The Pioneers improve to 11-11-2 on the season as the Bears fall to 8-13-1. The Pioneers will end their regular season schedule at home Sunday as the take on Potsdam State with an expected start time of 4 p.m.
