The Utica College women's hockey team bounced right back after Saturday nights' overtime loss to Oswego and beat the Lakers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Campus Center Ice Arena. The Pioneers improve to 6-8-2 in the conference and 10-11-2 overall while Oswego is now 5-8-1 in conference play and 7-12-1 overall. In the ECAC Women's West Cconference, Utica College is in fourth place and Oswego State is in a three way tie for fifth.

UC was whistled for its second interference penalty at 15:24 in the first period, both called on junior defender Becky Heim. 30 seconds into the Oswego State power play, UC forward Meagan Sudik netted an unassisted short-handed goal at 15:54 into the first period.

The Lakers tied the game at 2:58 into the second period with an even strength goal by Lauren Gilpin, assisted by Erica Shapey and Kristin Metzger. Less than one minute later, the Pioneers answered with what proved to be the game winner at 3:33. Junior forward Eliza Kelley found the back of the net with her first goal of the season to lead UC to a key conference win. Sophomore defender MacKenzie Roy recorded her seventh assist of the season on the even strength goal.

The third period was a defensive battle with three penalties and no goals. Oswego was penalized at 3:37 for holding the stick and 19:06 for body checking. Utica was called for too many players on the ice at 11:52.

Senior goalie Jill Doherty had 21 saves on the evening and currently boasts a record of 10-9-2 on the season. Neither team converted on the power play. Utica College was 0-for-7 and Oswego State was 0-for-4. UC outshot the Lakers 42-22. The Pioneers had four penalties for only eight minutes while the Lakers were penalized seven times for 14 minutes.

UC is back in action Saturday February 20 at 4 p.m. versus Suny Potsdam at Maxcy Hall. Potsdam is 5-8-0 in the ECAC West and 8-10-0 overall.
