RIT DROPS UC IN E8 PLAY

The Utica College women's lacrosse team lost to visiting RIT 14-5 in Empire 8 Conference play Saturday afternoon.  Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and Maria Santucci (Holliston, MA/Marian) each netted two goals, while junior Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added an assist.  Sophomore goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) added 17 saves in net for the Pioneers.

Utica began the first half suffering a pair of yellow cards, which led to two man-up goals for the Tigers. After being down five goals, UC would get on the board as Banker scored off an assist from Kohnaski. Turnovers and ground balls would kill the Pioneers in the first half as they went into halftime trailing 8-3.

UC continued to struggle in the second half as RIT would lead by as many as 11 goals. The Pioneers would cut the deficit as Kohanski scored her 23rd goal of the season off of a free position with 4:33 left in the game. With 2:44 remaining, Santucci put in her seventh goal of the season to bring the Pioneer goal total to four.  Time would eventually run out for Utica as they were dealt the 14-5 loss to the Tigers.

The Pioneers fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference as the Tigers improve to 8-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Empire 8.

UC will look to snap a three game losing streak tomorrow as they take on Nazareth College at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium with an expected start time of 1 p.m.
