The Utica College women's lacrosse team had a tough game Tuesday at nationally-ranked No. 1 Hamilton College losing 19-3. Junior attacker
Julianne Schultheiss (Commack, NY/Commack) put together a solid individual performance against the Continentals netting three goals.
The Pioneers struggled in the first half and were outscored 12-3. All three of Schultheiss' goals came in the first half for UC. Hamilton's Kate Otley, Sarah Bray, Libby Schultz, and Ashley Allen chipped in two goals each in the first half. The Continentals had 16 shots on sophomore goalkeeper
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) (Waterloo, N.Y.), while the Pioneers could only muster up three shots on the Hamilton goalkeepers.
UC's woes continued in the second half as the Continentals dominated play. The Pioneers had 15 turnovers in the half that led to seven unanswered goals by Hamilton College. Kriti Dave of Hamilton College scored three consecutive goals midway through the half.
Barbay was busy between the pipes all game stopping six shots as the Pioneers were out shot 30-3.
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Henrietta, N.Y.) and
Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) (Syracuse, N.Y.) were able to add one assist each. The loss drops the Pioneers to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Continentals continue their unbeaten streak to 13-0 while maintaining a 5-0 record in conference.
UC will play its final home game Saturday as they take on St. John Fisher College. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
