MINEO EARNS 100TH CAREER WIN AS PIONEERS SWEEP STEVENS

Mineo collected his 100th career win
The Utica college softball team swept Empire 8 rival Stevens Institute of Technology as head coach Pat Mineo earned his 100th career win.  Freshman Bridgette Plumber (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) posted a big series as she went 4-for-7 with six runs and nine RBI's, while Jackie Gallagher (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) went 3-for-7 with three RBIs.

The Pioneers got off to a fast start in the top of the first as Plummer reached on a fielders choice to bring in junior Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) (Prospect, N.Y.) from third.  UC would add to its lead in the second as Martin hit an RBI ground out to second, scoring freshman Shannon Bailey (Clarksburgh, NJ) from third. UC continued stockpiling runs throughout the next two innings as they held an 8-1 lead after three. The Pioneers held off the Ducks from that point on as they earned a 9-1 victory.

Pitcher Haley Butler (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) (New Hartford, NY) earned the game one win throwing a complete game, allowing only one hit and one earned run.

In game two of the double header the Pioneers sent junior Madison Dinsmore (Theresa, NY) to the mound in hopes of completing the sweep. Stevens got on the board first at the top of the second inning as Molly Herforth singled up the middle to score Sarah Parker.  The Pioneers answered back in the third inning when they posted a ten run inning as Plummer homered twice for a total of six RBIs. The Ducks would add three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning but came short on their comeback attempt as UC went on to win 14-6.

Dinsmore finished the day giving up one earned run and two strike outs in four innings, while Elizabeth Dennis (Canastota, NY) went 1-for-2 with two RBI's.

The Pioneers are now 12-24 overall and 4-10 in conference while the Ducks fall to 7-25 overall and 0-10 in the Empire 8.

Utica College will be back in action this Wednesday as they take on host RPI at Doris Robinson Field with an expected start time of 3:30 p.m.
