The Utica College softball team fell to 8-12 on the season after dropping both games to host Union College in a non-conference contest Wednesday. UC lost the first game 5-4 and the second game 7-3 as the Dutchwomen improved their overall record to 13-5.
In game one, Utica allowed one run in the each of the first two innings before rallying in the third behind freshmen first basemen Bridgette Plummer's three run homerun. The Pioneers took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh, however the Dutchwomen would come back with a two out, two run walk off homerun from Nina Cervini. Freshmen shortstop Jackie Gallagher went 2-for-3 with one run scored for Utica.
In game two, Gallagher went 2-for-3, including two runs scored and one RBI. Freshmen third basemen Hannah Barton had two RBIs for UC, driving in Gallagher both times. Bridgette Plummer continued her hitting spree going 2-for-4 and has now hit in five straight games. Junior right fielder Claire Gerlach added two hits for Utica.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as host Rochester Institute of Technology at Greenman Field in Utica, NY. The Tigers are currently 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8. The conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
