Junior Mallory Mariano (Oneida, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) continued to pile on the points, totaling three assists and the game-winning goal, as the Utica College field hockey team recovered from a 3-0 first half deficit to take down host Oswego State 4-3 in non conference play Wednesday. After allowing three goals in the first 25 minutes of play, the Pioneers rattled off four goals in a span of 14:20, to earn the one goal victory. Rebecca Corsones (Hurley, NY/Kingston), Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) and Sarah Keller also added goals to pace Utica.

With the win the Pioneers improved to 2-1, for the second consecutive season, after going 1-1 at the St. Lawrence Field Hockey Fest last weekend. The Pioneers have now defeated Oswego in four consecutive contests dating back to 2007 and they have outscored the Lakers 11-5 over the course of those four games. Oswego drops to 1-2 overall on the year after Wednesday's loss. UC defeated the Lakers 1-0 on a goal by Sarah Keller one year ago.

Oswego took a 1-0 advantage in Wednesday night's contest when Taylor Stein tallied her first goal of the season after a pass across the crease from teammate Jess Felice. Just 3:32 later Oswego stunner UC by taking a 2-0 lead from the stick of Sara Budde at 9:45. Brittany Roetzer assisted on Budde's second goal of the season.

Kelly Collins totaled her third goal of the season in the 25th minute to close out the first half scoring and give the Lakers a commanding 3-0 lead headed into halftime.

The Pioneers came out blazing in the second half, out shooting Oswego 14-6 over the course of the final 35 minutes, and they netted four unanswered goals to earn the road victory.

Corsones started the scoring barrage at 43:08 when she tallied her first goal of the season off an assist from Lindsey Jester (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) to cut the Pioneers' deficit to two goals. Just under three minutes later senior Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) caged her first goal of the year off an assist from Mariano to continue the Pioneer rally and cut the Laker's lead to 3-2. Keller added the game-tying goal 1:27 later off a penalty corner to completely erase Oswego's early 3-0 lead. Mariano assisted on the Keller goal, which knotted the contest at 3-3.

Mariano completed the Pioneer comeback when she netted her third goal of the season to give Utica a one goal advantage at the 57:28 ledger.

Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) made five saves in the cage for the Pioneers to earn her second victory of the season.

UC returns to action in its home opener Saturday when it hosts local rival Hamilton College. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Check www.ucpioneers.com for links to live video and stats.
