The Utica College women's volleyball team lost four games over the weekend in the Empire 8 Crossover Tournament. UC drops to 1-16 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. The Pioneers were led by freshmen Rachel Pratt-Smith (Harpursville, NY) who recorded 10 kills and 10 digs while sophomore Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY) had 35 assists and 17 digs in the tournament.
In the first match on Saturday, Utica played St. John Fisher (7-6) and lost 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-9). UC was led by junior Audrey Cross (White Lake, NY) and
Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill). Cross tallied five kills to go along with six digs, while O'Hara added 11 assists and seven digs.
In the second match Saturday, Utica droped three games to Ithaca (8-7) (25-5, 25-15, 25-11). Senior
Heather Jackson (Weare, NH/John Stark Regional) (Weare, NH) recorded two kills and four digs.
Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) added eight assists and three digs.
On Sunday, UC played Hartwick (4-12) and was swept 3-0 (25-16, 25-5, 25-13). Junior
Aundrea Dorie (Mount Markham, NY /Mount Markham) (Mount Markham, NY) totaled three kills, seven digs, two service aces, and one block. Rachel Pratt-Smith had three kills and five digs and
Heather Jackson (Weare, NH/John Stark Regional) added eight digs.
In the last match of the weekend, Utica played RIT (12-4) and lost all three games (25-14, 25-8, 25-20).
Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) had eight assists and five digs, while Pratt-Smith added four kills, two digs, and one serve ace.
The Pioneers return to action Sept. 6 as they cross town to face local rival SUNYIT at the Wildcat gymnasium. SUNYIT is currently 7-4 overall this season with two of those wins coming against UC on the opening weekend of the season. The game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
