Utica, N.Y. - The Utica College women's basketball team (9-7, 5-2 Empire 8) will travel to Hoboken, NJ
Friday to face Stevens Institute of Technology (13-2, 6-1 Empire 8) in the second game of the two-game season series. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The remaining season schedule for the Pioneers features nine conference contests, of which six will be road games.
The Ducks beat the Pioneers earlier this season, 44-37, on Dec. 10 in the team's conference opener at the Clark Athletic Center. With a win on Friday, UC can move into a second place tie with Stevens in the conference standings. Ithaca holds first place with an undefeated conference record of 8-0.
Last season, UC beat Stevens two out three games. The Pioneers won, 58-51, on Jan. 5 in Utica. Steven revenged that victory with a three-point win, on Feb. 5, at Canavan Arena. The final game would result in a victory for Utica, 64-59, in the first round of the Conference Tournament which UC ended up going on to win against host Ithaca College. Prior to last season, the Ducks were 5-1 against Utica with UC's only win coming in the Conference Championship, 55-46, on Mar. 1 2008.
Senior All-American
Jessica Berry (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) leads the conference averaging a double-double, including 20.5 points per game and 10.8 rebounds. Berry also leads the conference in steals with a total of 54 in 16 games (3.33 spg).
Sophomore
Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) is first in the conference in field goal percentage (.581) and fourth in the conference in scoring (16.8 ppg).
Senior guard
Devon Croll (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) currently leads the conference in three-point percentage (.446) and minutes played (37.88 mpg).
Following Friday's contest, UC returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 1 as they welcome Elmira College for the team's first meeting of the season. The Soaring Eagles are currently 3-14 overall and last in the conference with a record 1-7.
