Utica, NY- The Utica College women's ice hockey team lost 4-3 to ECAC Women's West Conference opponent Potsdam to wrap up the weekend with a split against he Bears. The Pioneers dominated the second period scoring three consecutive goals but fell short as the Bears regained control in the final period.
Potsdam opened the game with a pair of successful power plays. Emma Smetaniuk netted the first goal of the game for the Bears at 3:50. Seven minutes later Breanna Roy increased Potsdam's lead to 2-0. Stephanie Simons added a third at 19:42 to give Potsdam a three-goal advantage at the end of the first period.
The Pioneers returned in the second period scoring three consecutive goals to breathe life into the contest. Freshman
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) fired one in just 47 seconds into the second period to cut the Potsdam lead to 3-1. The Pioneers took advantage of their power plays as

MacKenzie Roy (Concord, NH/Cushing Academy) to earn UC's second goal of the evening and decrease Potsdam's lead to 3-2. Less than four minutes later senior forward

Becky Heim, Myers and Heir each finished the game with one assist for Utica.
The Bears outshot the Pioneers 16-5 in the third period with Jessica Silveira scoring the game-winner for Potsdam at 7:40.

Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished the game with 46 saves for UC.
The Pioneers, now 10-7 overall and 6-6 in the ECAC West, will return to the ice on Feb. 5 for another conference encounter against Neumann University in Aston, Pa. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
