Manhattanville 2, Utica 1 - Box Score

Rye, N.Y. (1/7/2011) – Junior goalie Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) stopped an incredible 48 shots, as the Pioneers
were outshot 50-17, but it was not enough as the Utica College women's hockey team allowed two unanswered goals and lost to host Manhattanville 2-1 Friday night at the Playland Ice Casino.

Utica (7-6) took advantage of an early power-play and opened up a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the contest when freshman Emily Russell (Marblehead, MA/National Sports Academy) netted her second goal of the season of an assist from senior Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects). Hier now has a team-best 16 assists this season.

The host Valiants answered less than three minutes later and tied the game up at 1-1 when Haleigh Hutchinson tallied her fourth goal of the year off an assist from Katie Little.

Shannon Coffey added the eventual game-winner 3:54 into the second period to secure the victory for Manhattanville. The Pioneers were only able to muster three shots in the third period as they lost their fourth game in five tries.

Emy Cote stopped 16 shots in net for the Valiants.

Utica remains on the road Wednesday for game four of a five game road trip when the Pioneers travel to Amherst College to take on the Lord Jeffs at 7 p.m.
