Utica, NY (10-15-11) - The Utica College men's soccer team beat host Skidmore College Sunday afternoon, 1-0, in Saratoga Springs.  Sophomore Jeffrey Cupka (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) put in the game-winner for UC for the second time in as many days.  He drilled home a corner kick last night to give the Pioneers their first conference win of 2011.

The first half consisted of 11 total shots, seven from Skidmore and four from Utica, including one UC corner as the two programs went into the half tied, 0-0

Following 70 minutes of scoreless play, last night's hero, Cupka, headed a cross pass from classmate Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) into the back of the net, at 70:31.  On the play, Cupka registered his third goal of the season, all game-winners, while Peterson tallied his team-leading fifth assist of the year.  Peterson added three shots including one on goal in the win

Senior captain Johnathan Wood and freshman Chris Stashko (Apalachin, NY/Apalachin) combined for five of the Pioneers 10 shots.

Sophomore goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) recorded his ninth shut out of the season while moving to 8-5 overall.  Caruso and his counterpart, Nick Peterson, both registered four stops on the day as UC out shot the home team 12-10.

The Pioneers return to their home turf Wednesday as they welcome E8 power Stevens Institute of Technology.  The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. under the lights of Charles A. Gaetano Stadium (Utica, NY).
