Utica, N.Y. (10/6/2011) - The Utica College volleyball team is set to host its “Dig Pink" game on October 19th at 7 p.m. against Morrisville State College. The Dig Pink event will begin at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium as the Pioneers' prepare to take on the Mustangs.
“It's for a good cause and it's great for UC to be involved in something that can help educate the community," said Utica
College first-year Assistant Coach Nicole Higgins. "It will bring the team together and the girls should have a good time with it. It will be a great bonding and team building experience.”
The Pioneers will hold a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle, a basket raffle, and sell remembrance balloons. All proceeds will go directly to the Side-Out Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness, education, and patient services. The Lady Pioneers will be wearing pink jerseys, pink socks, and pink shoe laces during the game to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
The Side-Out Foundation was created in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches in promoting breast cancer awareness. The organization allows teams to get involved and provides educational materials on how to promote breast cancer awareness. The Side-Out Foundation also offers support for teams to fundraise.
The Side-Out Foundation hopes to eventually raise $2,500,000 and it has currently collected over $350,000 towards its cause. To donate fans can go online to
