Volleyball Wraps Up Empire 8 Cross-Over Tournament at Fisher

Pittsford, N.Y. (10/23/2011) - The Utica College volleyball team dropped three matches this weekend at the second leg of the Empire 8 Conference Cross-Over Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher College Friday and Saturday in Pittsford, NY.  The Pioneers' lost 3-0 to Nazareth on Friday, before falling in consecutive matches to Elmira and Alfred on Saturday. 

Mariah Walker (Frankfort, NY/Franfort-Schuyler), Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) and Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) all recorded ten or more kills over the course of nine games.  Nicotera led UC with 13 kills and she also added 20 digs.  Kellee Furno (Baltimore, MD/Maryvalle) totaled 33 assists, while Leah Kazalski (Greene, NY/Greene) registered a team-high 32 digs.  Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway) posted seven kills and added a team-high six blocks, while junior Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) chipped in with 14 digs and three service aces. 

Hayley Strife (Lowville, NY/Lowville) played in eight games and posted nine kills, two service aces and two blocks for the Pioneers.

Utica (2-29, 0-7 Empire 8) returns to the hardwood on Wednesday night when it hosts The Sage Colleges for its final home game of the year.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
