The Utica College men's soccer team returns home Wednesday to take on cross-town rival SUNYIT at 7 p.m.  This is the Pioneers first home game since Sept. 18 when they defeated Elms College 8-0.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers lost a close non-conference game Saturday when they traveled to Schenectady to take on Union College… Sophomores Jeff Cupka and Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) registered two shots each and classmate Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) tallied four saves in the 1-0 defeat.

WHERE WE SIT:  UC is 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8 Conference… All four of the Pioneers' losses have been by just one goal.   

LAST TIME UC FACED SUNYIT: The last time these two teams met, UC came away with a 3-1 win… Current sophomore Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) netted two of the three Pioneer' goals… UC holds a 5-1 record in head-to-head meetings in the last six years… The last time the Pioneers lost to the Wildcats was in 2006, when they fell 2-1.

LEADING THE WAY: Sophomore Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) leads the team in goals (five) and points (11)… He is tied for second in the conference in goals and points per game… Senior captain Jonathon Wood leads the team in game-winnings goals (two) and is tied for first in the conference with four assists. 

SHARING THE WEALTH: Ten Pioneers have netted at least one goal through eight games so far. 

SHUTTING THE DOOR:  Goalkeeper Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) has given up just seven goals this season… He has tallied four shutouts so far and has a goals-against average of 1.04… For his career he has eight shutouts, 15 victories, and a 1.29 goals against average

SCOUTING SUNYIT: The Wildcats are 5-4-1 overall and are undefeated in their conference with a 5-0 record… They have won their last four games and five of the last six… SUNYIT is lead by all-region midfielder Diego Montaleza and goalkeeper Malick Faye.
